Rough Collies, one of the first breeds to
have Championship status restored, were
granted four sets of Challenge Certificates
in 1946, rising to 24 sets by the end of the
decade. At the first post-war Championship
Show, hosted by the Collie Association,
well known all-rounder Mr Leo Wilson,
giving tickets to Collies for the first time,
presented this historic award to Beulah’s
Golden Futureson who, adding two
further Challenge Certificates all from
Collie Association Shows, was elevated to
Champion in March 1947, a fitting tribute
to his sire Ch Beulah’s Golden Future the last pre-war male Rough Collie Champion. The first bitch Challenge Certificate winner, Beulah’s Nightglamorous never gained her crown, but did help to re-establish Miss Clare Molony’s WESTCARRS kennel which had been dissolved early in the war. In all 33 Rough Collies (17 dogs & 16 bitches) gained their title before the end of 1950, including such famous names as, Chapelburn Ivor, Alphington Nigger King, Gunner of Mariemeau, Eden Enchanting, Elation, Estrella, and Lyncliffe Blue Lady, the first blue merle post-war champion. However the most spectacular win must be Miss Grey’s unique double at Southern Counties in 1949 when Miss Clare Molony handed the illusive third tickets to both Lochinvar of Ladypark and his dam Beulah’s Golden Flora, giving Miss Grey a day to remember.
