Rough Collies dogs which did assist in
the breed’s regeneration after the war
include Chs Alphington Achievement,
Corella Starboy, Walford of Waldemar,
The Laird of Killartry and the untitled
Waldo of Waldemar, but perhaps the
most important sire was Mr Ball’s Ch Backwoods Fellow who did so much to establish the Beulah sable line. Whilst blue merle fortunes mainly depended on Ch Glenack Kingfisher and his tricolour son Beulah’s Nightshadowing who sired brothers Beulah’s Nightvictorious and Silver Don Mario, both of paramount importance during the forties, despite the fact that the latter was one of the last Collies to be sent to America in 1940. In Smooth Collies Ch Laund Lawson, Rockcliffe Regent and Stanley Footprint were all successful widely used stud dogs.
Successful Rough Collie family lines were widely spread throughout the major breeding kennels, with many of the old breeding families becoming dormant, their places taken by Miss Muffet of Faux family 1, Blue Poppy family 2, Chs Beulah’s Golden Feather & Backwoods Florodora family 10, and family 13’s Old Mill Duchess. Redevalley Dinkie, family 3, being unique in that she was influential in both Rough and Smooth Collies, with her breeder/owners Messrs J and J. G. Foster, brothers resident in the Smooth’s natural homeland of the North East, along with Mrs Rhys and Mr Hewison HEWBURN proving to be the Smooth’s most consistent breeders.
