Sable and white Rough Collie Ch Eden Emerald
Ch Eden Emerald
Eden Emerald, younger by almost
16 months and the first to gain a title,
sired Eden Educator before crossing the
Atlantic, and Educator founded two
prominent sire lines whose influence can
still be seen today. Emerald’s American
career proved even more spectacular,
and whilst never earning his American
title, his importation not warranting a
mention in Dr Bennett’s
‘The Collie’, he did
sire 9 American Collie Champions, and several influential sires, including the great El Capitan of Arken who played a pivotal role in establishing the American Collie as a separate identity. Bitches, always more difficult to asses, see Peggy o’ Mountshannon
family d, Eden Embrace, Ch Eden Elenora, dam of Fashion and Emerald, and Denny Dinah all descended from Denny Lively Bird family 1 and Seedley Floss family 14 making significant contributions to female lines. Smooth Collies, although at a low ebb, did produce a number of father and son influential sire pairs, including blue merle Champions Canute Clinker and Admiration, the untitled Stanley Leader and Weardale Leader, plus the incredible three generation line of Stanley Example, Ch Blue Blend and Royton Blue Boy. Isolating dominant bitches is even more difficult in the Smooth Collie, but any list of prominent breeding kennels must be topped by Mr H. Whitley PRIMLEY, a somewhat eccentric gentleman specialising in blue animals of various types, who bred several of the above named sires in addition to the great Ch Laund Lynne.
