Several new names were added to the
list of Collie fanciers including the
Rev Slater, famous for his
MOUNTSHANNON blue merles,
Miss I. Jones - TREFFYNNON and
Mr J. Woosey St HELENS, but the two
which spring to everybody’s mind
must be Mr W. W. Stansfield and
his LAUND kennel, world famous for both Rough and Smooth Collies, and Mr Fred Robson’s EDEN collies. Both kennels, having established themselves in the latter years of the last decade, dominate both this and the next few decades.
Prominent Collies of the period include Chs Seedley Stirling, Laund Limit, Magnet, Eden Extra, Porchester Blue Sol and Calder Bank Special, but of special significance were the exploits of Rough Collie Poplar Perfection, behind all present day collies both sides of the Atlantic, who completed his title in 1920 with tickets at Vale of Conway and Blackpool Shows having annexed his first Challenge Certificate from Hugo Ainscough PARBOLD at Cruft’s 1917, thereby becoming the only Collie to achieve a title having gained Challenge Certificates both sides of the first world-war cessation of canine events. Laund Logic’s achievements were even more spectacular, for he collected 8 of the 17 Challenge Certificates allocated to male Rough Collies in 1920, including the first post-war first world-war Challenge Certificate granted to Kensington Canine Society and awarded by Mr F. Norris.
