Regional Breed Clubs had flourished for some
time, both in and outside Kennel Club control,
a number of recently established, like the
City of Birmingham Collie Club, were active
for only a short period, but the London and
Provincial Collie Club, now the oldest mainland Kennel Club registered Collie Society, founded in 1906 continues to serve the Collie community in the South East.
It was the world wide attraction of the combined British Sheepdog breeds which made the ‘Collie Folio’ a viable proposition. Published monthly and supported by advertisements, and initially owned and edited by renowned canine photographer Thomas Baker, passing to the SOUTHPORT supremo Mr W. E. Mason on Baker’s death. Fully illustrated, and way ahead of its time, it remains the most reliable and detailed source of information on the period. Early in the 20th Century the Our Dogs publishing company sponsored a series of major breed monograms. Lavishly illustrated Mr H. E. Packwood’s BILLESLEY ‘Show Collies – Rough and Smooth Coated – A Complete History’, is acknowledged as a breed classic. The Collie’s early history and development covered in such detail current chroniclers, including this one, continue to quote liberally from its pages.
