On the Smooth Collie front, laurels were
shared by Canute Perfection,
Sunnybrae Perfection, Eastwood Eminent & Extra, Quality of Dunkirk, Stockport Connie, plus Eleanor & Julien both de Montfort, but the star performance goes to Babette of Moreton who wrote her name in Collie History by becoming the first Smooth Collie to win the coveted Challenge Trophy at The Collie Club Show in 1902 after winning 10 of the 22 Championship/Challenge Prizes awarded to the Smooth Collie in 1901.
With foreign, particularly American, kennel owners competing to purchase the best of British blood lines it was difficult for any stud dog to establish a dominant line, those to make any impression included Champions Parbold Piccolo, Anfield Model and Squire of Tytton, all of which crossed the Atlantic after short stud careers, Parbold Piccolo disappearing shortly after arrival never to be seen again. As many of the old bitch families began to loose sway, new ones were taking their place, families d & 7 enjoyed greater prominence, whilst Roberts’ Old Lassie (family 1) and Bell’s Stanhope Village Belle (family 13) began to make their presence felt.
